Video: BMW registers dontblogaboutthis.com, we can't help it
Filed under: Coupe, Etc., Marketing/Advertising, BMW, Rumormill, Specialty Sorry, we just did - Click above to watch the video after the jump A new website called DontBlogAboutThis.com has surfaced, currently populated with two photos and two videos. The photos show an odd looking BMW 6 Series wearing skinny tires, a matte paint job and a don't-look-at-me-no-please-look-at-me bumper sticker. Is it the new BMW Hipster Series? The site also notes that these photos are not spy shots - which we know is true since we looked up the domain registration information. The site is owned by BMW. The two videos, which you can watch after the jump, reveal only a little more than the photos. Whatever is under the hood of this BMW is running very quietly. In fact, it seems to be mostly road noise that we hear before the slightly creepy Heroes-esque music comes in. What does it all mean? Honestly... we have no clue. We know that the BMW M6 has ceased production so maybe the engineers are deciding to head in a different direction. Could this be powered by hydrogen, Bangle Blood or is an electric boogaloo 6 Series is on the horizon? BMW's dontblogaboutthis.com car revealed on forum
Filed under: Concept Cars, Spy Photos, Coupe, Etc., Marketing/Advertising, Paris Motor Show, BMW, Rumormill, Specialty dontblogaboutthis BMW - Click above for high-res image gallery Yesterday we brought you a few strange images and even weirder videos showcasing an odd BMW. Today, more images have hit the web, proving this is more than a BMW 6 Series with skinny tires and a missing tailpipe. The car may be wearing 6 Series skin from the a-pillar back, but the front is a different animal. It appears to be similar to the face found on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept vehicle. There are a lot of ways these "spy shots" can be perceived. The above image and the extremely quiet running sound from the clips certainly led us to believe this car is utilizing a new EfficientDynamics powertrain. This would mean the above mash-up mobile is powered by a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder diesel as well as a pair of electric motors set on the axles. A viral campaign complete with dark photographs of a mysterious vehicle? It must be auto show season! The Paris Motor Show is right around the corner and we hope someone BMW will be ready to spill their precision-engineered beans. Video: BMW plans for tomorrow's older workforce today
Filed under: Etc., Plants/Manufacturing, Videos, BMW BMW making smart changes for their aging workers - Click above to watch the video after the jump Unless you're a tween vampire or the cyborg known as Joan Rivers, you are going to age. BMW understands that as people get older they may not be able to put in the same level of work they once could. It's not just BMW employees that are fighting father time, but the entire work force is inching toward the age of AARP eligibility. In Germany, more than a fifth of the country will be over 65 by the year 2020. BMW has found its older workforce has a greater level of patience and overall skill, compared to the young Teutonic bucks running around the assembly line. The increased patience runs against a decline in strength, vision and flexibility. That is not a good combination for people required to perform precision tasks. Rather than simply ignoring the needs of their older workers, BMW has found a way to work with them. Managers at one particular assembly plant switched workers around so that one line was staffed with an older crew. In seven years, the average age for a BMW employee is projected to be 47, inspiring the re-arranged shift. The result? Productivity went up seven percent, absenteeism fell below the plant average and the defect rate for the line dropped to zero. Sounds amazing, but it was surprisingly easy to accomplish. BMW asked these workers what they needed to be more comfortable on the job, then actually listened to the answers. For example, if a worker mentioned that their feet hurt, BMW supplied them with special shoes and installed wooden floors. If another worker needed a place to sit, they installed a modified hairdresser's chair Take a look at the how BMW is making their work environment and watch the video after the jump. Video: How to build a BMW Z4 GT3 in 600 hours
Filed under: Motorsports, Coupe, Performance, Videos, BMW Time-lapse video of a BMW Z4 GT3 coming to life - Click above to watch the video after the jump The BMW Z4 GT3 is a fixed-roof, race-ready version of the standard Z4. Instead of a straight six, the Z4 GT3 is powered by a 480-horsepower 4.0-liter V8 coupled to a six-speed sequential gearbox. Designed and engineered for the track, this Z4 definitely means business - just look at it. You can purchase your own version for around $400,000, and after paying that price, you can have your new track assassin shipped to you... in pieces. BMW ships the car out in boxes and it's up to the proud new owner to put it together. Recently, Swedish race crew, Team West Coast Racing, did just that. The entire build took them 600 hours and they kept a camera rolling during that period. A time-lapse video captures the action as bare chassis becomes complete racer. 600 hours is 25 days, and 25 days is a long time to wait in between track sessions. In this case, the wait seems worth it and you can see the build video for yourself after the jump. Video: BMW goes unscripted with 413,000-mile 2800 CS
Filed under: Classics, Coupe, Videos, BMW Murray Fowler's 1969 BMW 2800 CS - Click above to watch video after the jump As much as we adore vintage iron, we love the people responsible for keeping them around even more. You'll never find a more dedicated sample of humanity than those prowling local swap meets and cruise-ins, each nearly guaranteed to boast a tale or two of how they came to be infatuated with the make or model of their choice. BMW has recently decided to tap into that wealth of unparalleled brand loyalty with a new video series that the company is calling "BMW Unscripted." The episode after the jump focuses on one very smitten owner and the immaculate 1969 2800 CS he bought new over 40 years ago. Murray Fowler was 40 years old when he drove his 2800 CS for the first time, and over the years, the guy has racked up a dizzying number of miles on the clock - a total of about 413,000 at the time that the video was recorded. This isn't some garage queen locked away from the temptation of beautiful Southern California roads. Oh, no - this is the real deal. Hit the jump to take a look at the flick for yourself.
