Ninja Alert! Beware of car salesmen trained in the art of phone calls
Filed under: Car Buying, Etc., Marketing/Advertising, BMW It may sound obvious to say you should be wary of car salesmen on the phone, just as you should be wary of car salesmen in general. To hammer the point home, though, here are some audio files of Jerry Thibeau training salespeople at car dealerships, in this case a BMW dealership, to schmooze and potentially ensnare customers before they even walk on the lot. With the Internet stealing large portions of business from car dealerships, there's a real need for dealers to invest in this kind of telephone training. Thibeau answered the call when he started New York-based Phone-Up Ninjas back in late 2009. Guys like Thibeau charge $2,000 a day plus expenses to visit car dealerships for these training sessions. They can also do the work remotely, dubbing constructive criticism into mystery shopper phone calls to point out where a salesperson's pitch could use some help. The car salesman on the other end of the line has a job to do: make you buy a car (or how about this nice SUV that's just a little more per month?). Just remember that, next time, you may be talking to a ninja. Our advice? Hang up. Follow the jump to hear more ninja training calls, or read the full report at AOL Autos to learn more about how this industry operates. Cadillac cleans up with three KBB Brand Image Awards
Filed under: BMW, Cadillac, Ford, GM, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe - Click above for high-res image gallery Kelley Blue Book has announced the winners of its 2011 Brand Image awards, which are given out based on KBB data culled from a survey taken by over 12,000 in-market shoppers. Cadillac's image must be rather strong with said shoppers, because it took home KBB hardware in three out of the 10 award categories. Constantly citing the CTS family of vehicles, KBB handed Cadillac the awards for Best Exterior Design, Best Comfort and Best Interior Design. Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Honda, Toyota and BMW snagged the rest of the 2011 Brand Image trophies. BMW and Ford received two nods apiece, but Caddy is still king of this particular hill for 2011. BMW X1 will go on sale in Canada, still no word on U.S.
Filed under: Car Buying, Crossover, BMW, Canada, Luxury 2011 BMW X1 - Click above for high-res image gallery Call the BMW X1 what you like. A hatchback with an identity crisis. A BMW crossover with a Napoleon complex. But whatever you call it, you can't argue with its success. Since going on sale less than two years ago in Europe, the smallest of Munich's X Series has sold out in just about every market it's reached. Which is why it's not here in America yet - the Bavarian automaker just can't keep up with demand, and taking a bite out of the U.S. market is more than it can chew at the moment. That won't stop the X1 from reaching our neighbors to the north, though. A BMW dealership in the affluent Toronto suburb of Thornhill has announced that the X1 is coming to that vast frozen landmass above the 49th Parallel, verified by the inclusion of the CUV's presence on the BMW Canada website, but not on BMW USA's. It won't be the first time the Canucks are getting an import before America does - the Mercedes-Benz B-Class stands as another notable German example - but could this prove a precursor to the crossover's arrival in the United States? We'll just have to sit tight and see - either that or defect northwards. Video: Motor Trend pits Panamera against X6 M, CTS-V Wagon in wild three-way
Filed under: Performance, SUV, Wagon, Etc., Videos, Hatchback, BMW, Cadillac, Porsche 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo - Click above to watch video after the jump Motor Trend has amassed three of the automotive world's black sheep for a little throw-down on the quarter mile. The 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo lurks in one corner, complete with its 550-horsepower, forced-induction 4.8-liter V8. What could possibly serve as a fitting combatant to such a lump of angry metal? The 2011 BMW X6 M is up to the challenge. With a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that kicks out 555 horsepower, the gangly SUV should have the cajones to give the bad Porsche a run for its schnitzel. Of course, where's the fun in watching two German heavyweights go around the ring? In order to add a little spice to this mix, the guys from MT threw in the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon. Now it's a party. How does it turn out? We won't spoil it for you. Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself. If you look really closely, you might even see a familiar face that used to haunt these halls. Word has it that we can expect a more mouth-watering video with these three amigos to show up later this week. Report: BMW won't market an M3 GTS sedan... at least, not in the U.S.
Filed under: Sedan, Performance, Europe, BMW BMW M3 Sedan lightweight concept - Click above for high-res image gallery You may recall that earlier this month, BMW revealed a unique M3 Sedan that had been stripped of weight and toughened up, packing the same sort of approach applied to the hard-core M3 GTS coupe, albeit with a couple of extra doors. The one-off was made for the M Festival set to take place during the 24 Hours of Nürburgring this coming June, but naturally, speculation on its production potential has ensued. The good folks over at M3Post pinned down Matt Russell, the guy who handles the M range (along with Alpina) for BMW North America, and asked him about the lightweight M3 sedan's future, and according to him, there are no plans to market such a vehicle in the United States. Naturally, Russell didn't comment on markets outside his purview, neatly avoiding comment on whether the hardcore sedan will be available somewhere. But given the short time remaining in the current M3's lifespan and the stringencies of U.S. regulations, any such vehicle apparently isn't fated for these shores. Elsewhere in the interview, Russell professed his admiration for the all-wheel drive system developed by Ferrari for the new FF. Could BMW incorporate AWD into future M products? Potentially, but as with the lightweight M3 sedan, the extra heft would be an issue.
