Rumormill: BMW considering four-cylinder 3-series for U.S.
Filed under: Coupes, Sedans/Saloons, Euro, Green, BMW, Rumormill ![]() BMW project director Oliver Friedmann said that a four-cylinder petrol Bimmer would have a "desirable effect" here in the U.S., but didn't commit any concrete plans for a U.S. four-banger. He did say that the U.S. probably isn't ready for a diesel four-cylinder, but we beg to differ. Our friends at AutoblogGreen had a blast in the twin-turbo 123d and managed 37 mpg while thoroughly testing the oil-burner's limits. We think the petrol 2.0L would be well received as well. While four-cylinder luxury cars were taboo just a few years ago, high fuel prices have given Americans plenty of motivation to welcome a 2.0L Bimmer with open arms. [Source: Inside Line]

Rendered Speculation: BMW X2 is X1's sporty sibling
Filed under: Paris Motor Show, Crossovers/CUVs, BMW, Rendered Speculation ![]() The 1-series-based X1 is currently carrying the codename "Sports Activity Wagon" (SAW), whereas the X2 is known internally as a "Sports Activity Runabout" (SAR). In keeping with BMW's new nomenclature and styling, the X2 will sport different bodywork, up-market materials, more standard equipment and a wider track to differentiate the two-door CUV from its four-door counterpart. Powertrains fitted with BMW's Efficient Dynamics system will be part of the package, beginning with 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines, eventually evolving into mild- and plug-in hybrid drivetrains. While the X1 has already been green-lit for production, the X2 is still in limbo. But if it does come to market, expect the X2 to bow sometime in 2011 after the X1 launches in 2010. [Source: CAR]

Confirmed: BMW working on 4 cylinder turbo, may come to U.S.
Filed under: Coupes, Sedans/Saloons, Government/Legal, Green, I.C.E., BMW ![]() Click above for high-res photo gallery of the BMW Concept 1 Series tii Rumors of a new four cylinder engine from BMW have been confirmed by BMW's North American leader Jim O'Donnell. Questions on whether it will be offered in the United States, though, are still very much in the air. "We can't really confirm or deny when it is going to come into the US, or if it is going to come into the US, until after the election and the government makes it clear what is going to be the platform that manufacturers have got to work to," says O'Donnell. It really seems so simple to us. If an automaker has a new engine that offers both good performance and good fuel economy, it should be offered in the U.S. market. Granted, the last effort to sell four-cylinder Bimmers in the States didn't go over so well. But BMW's reputation was earned first by cars like the 2002, which was motivated by a sprightly little four-banger. Considering the fact that BMW owns the MINI brand, the automaker should know better than anyone else that Americans are now willing to spend a good deal of money on small cars with small engines. We'll gladly support a revival of the tii badge on a lightweight 1 Series platform powered by a nice turbo four. [Source: BimmerFile]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments أكثر... |

Video: Why some BMW owners have a bad reputation
Filed under: Videos, BMW, Humor ![]() Click above to watch the video. Trust us, the chicks dig it. So, just what is it about BMW drivers that gives them their reputation? Is it that they are poor drivers, like some cyclists in the U.K. apparently believe? Or are they all just self-obsessed jerks... or worse? Before you BMW drivers get all up in arms, there are some BMW owners amongst our ranks and we think stereotypes suck, so we are not labeling anybody. Still, there exists a perception that drivers of some brands (and BMWs in particular) act a certain way. Watch the video after the break for a possible explanation. Seriously, there's no good reason to stop your hardtop/convertible's top halfway down unless you are trying to show off. And blare some irritatingly unmanly music with which to dance and disrobe to. Is it just us or do you think this guy is channeling his inner ? It's more like a full-bodied dry heave set to music.
