GeigerCars Corvette Grand Sport
Normally, when a German tuner gets a hold of a car, any car, they only seem to go in one direction (stylistically speaking): Over the top. So it was a pleasant surprise when head gearhead Chris sent me the info on GeigerCars done up, tuned up, hopped up and hot-rodded Corvette Grand Sport
The LS3 V8 under the hood of the Grand Sport Vette is already damn impressive, cranking out 430 hp and 575 Nm of torque. But Geigercars (actually Geigercars.de is their full name) wasn’t going to let that be. So they affixed a 2.3 liters capacity supercharger to the GM plant, and now the power rings in at 588 hp at 6,490 rpm. Torque? Ha-ha, little man. Torque is now a whopping 738 Nm at a low-low 4,030 rpm This results in performance figures like zero to 100 km/h in less than four seconds and a top speed of 337 km/h Geigercars has also added wider front and rear fenders with additional vents, to accommodate the larger brakes lifted from the sister Vette Z06. That would be the 355 mm, six-pot discs at the front axle, and 340 mm, four-pot discs at the back. The front diffuser and larger rear spoiler are also borrowed from the Corvette Z06. Sway bars, shock absorbers and springs have also been re-tooled, and the six-speed transmission has had the top two cogs re-worked. There’s also a dry sump oil system and differential cooler are on board. They relocated the battery of the Grand Sport to the rear, and Geigercars added 18 and 19 inch light alloy rims, with 275/35 and imposing 325/30 tires There’s also Geigercars factory-installed emblems on the front fenders, as well as special graphics applied by Geigercars.de to the fenders, bonnet and boot lid And here’s the technical specifications Engine: 6.2 liter V8 Output: 588 hp at 6,490 rpm Torque: 738 N m at 4,030 rpm Top speed: 337 km/h Supercharger with 2.3 liter capacity and 0.6 bar charging pressure Transmission: Six-speed manual transmission (5th and 6th gears modified) Light alloy wheels – 18 inch front / 19 inch rear Tires: 275/35 ZR18 front / 325/30 ZR19 rear Base model: EUR 66,900 Performance upgrade: EUR 16,450 Modified transmission ratio: EUR 2,800 |
