Introducing the new A-Class E-Cel
As part of Mercedes-Benz ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable mobility, we have already developed two road-ready series production electric vehicles – the smart fortwo electric drive and the B-Class F-Cell. And now they are joined by the A-Class E-Cell. Based on the five-door version of the current A-Class, this new vehicle produces zero local emissions and has a range of over 125 mph when fully charged. Peak output is 95 hp (75 kW). Power is supplied by two high-performance lithium-ion batteries, chosen for their outstanding efficiency, compact dimensions, and long service life. As for charging the A-Class E-Cell, this can be done using a domestic power socket or at public charging points. Crucially, the A-Class E-Cell retains all the space, comfort and versatility of its combustion engine counterpart. And unlike some electric vehicles, which feel sluggish and unwieldy, its driving characteristics are agile and responsive. This is partly due to the batteries’ location within the vehicle’s sandwich structure, which creates a low centre of gravity. The A-Class E-Cell also offers excellent torque for an electric drive vehicle, making it an assured and dyanmic performer on the road. Maximum speed is electronically set at 93 mph. Initially, our Rastatt plant will produce just 500 A-Class E-Cells, which will be leased to selected customers across Europe. |
