Is Pioneer's new Zypr infotainment system the way of the future?
INRIX, a leading international provider of traffic information and driving services, announced an agreement with Pioneer for its new, voice-controlled, integrated Web services platform called Zypr. Once again, the goal is to accelerate the development of a new category of navigation applications for the daily driver.
Accessible both in the car and on mobile platforms including Apple iOS, Google and Android, Zypr enables software to integrate the Web's best location-based services and data across smartphones, tablets and consumer electronics devices such as smart TVs and automotive telematics.
Zypr-supported services currently include Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yelp and others – all with the power of voice control and a single login across devices.
The combination of navigation, entertainment and connectivity can be customized and controlled at will to make the user experience friendlier while eliminating the need for an app store.
Other key benefits include real-time traffic maps and traffic forecasts covering North America and Europe as well as integrated alerts to common traffic-causing delays such as accidents, construction and local events.
No automaker has shown interest in Zypr yet, but it's safe to assume Pioneer's new platform will generate plenty of attention in the coming months as companies look to introduce or upgrade their infotainment systems.
