La Voz de Galicia claims Peugeot is developing two new Talbot-badged models loosely based on models within its current range, which would be produced at Citroen’s facility in Vigo from 2012. The cars will replace the Peugeot 206 and first generation Citroen C3, which are presently sold as budget offerings in some countries. The brand will be primarily aimed at the Middle Eastern, Asian and African markets. Renault has benefit from the success of its budget Dacia brand, which is appearing in the UK in 2012. PSA President, Philippe Varin, is keen to distinguish the differences between the range of low cost cars and other vehicles manufactured by the group. He sees the low-cost cars as "not compatible" with the PSA’s current commercial policy. The last time Talbot was used on a passenger car was back in 1986. Peugeot is supposedly keen to use a name already known to the motoring public, rather than set up a completely new brand from scratch. Peugeot hasn’t made an official comment on the reports.
