Here's one of the rotary spherical valves(intake). It appears that with these designs, excessive flow restrictions would be a concern. I wonder how the convention exhaust header designs would compare.

this is the engine, Ruf designed 4.5-liter V8 engine with a 180° crankshaft “Flatcrank”. The whole engine weighs less than 200 kg and produces 550 hp at 8500 rpm and has a maximum torque of 500 Nm at 5400 rpm.
