Alpina teases with sketch of next B7 sedan

Outside, there won't be much happening -- nor necessary -- beyond Alpina's new front lip, rear wing and trademark wheels. Inside, Alpina might have some minor cluster mods in store, but we wouldn't expect too much change there, either. As with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/07/2007-chicago-auto-show-bmw-alpina-b7-an-m7-in-all-but-name/">the 2007 B7</a> and its 500 hp and 4.8-second 0-60 time, we figure the engine and suspension will be heavily redressed on this next version. Alpina could opt for the centrifugal supercharger routine again, but whatever they do will surely put healthy distance between the B7 and the 400 hp of the donor car's 4.4-liter V8. The B7 might also get BMW's rumored 8-speed transmission. It will definitely get a stratospheric price tag.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.nextautos.com/alpina-releases-teaser-sketch-next-generation-b7-sedan">Next Autos</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/alpina-teases-with-sketch-of-next-b7-sedan/">Alpina teases with sketch of next B7 sedan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 14:01:00 EST. Jim Press says Chrysler could be America's Benz, BMW
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/chrysler/" rel="tag">Chrysler, LLC.</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/mercedes-benz/" rel="tag">Mercedes-Benz</a></p><a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20081222/ANA03/812220324/1178"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/pressmerc_opt.jpg" /></a><br /><br />What American automaker best matches up with the uber-machines from the Germans? Lincoln... no, probably not. Cadillac? Getting warmer. How 'bout Chrysler, asks ChryCo. co-Prez Jim Press. After a quick review of Chrysler's current line-up, we're not really buying the comparison; but it's fun to dream, so we'll bite. The Sebring is roughly the size of the C-Class and 3 Series, but it's driving the wrong wheels to go head-to-head with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, so that would need a complete rework, to say the least. <br /><br />The 300C is a very nice car with an appropriate engine up front, rear-wheel drive and a relatively attractive price compared to the Germans. That could work, but it's clear that Chrysler would need to pump lots more money into the car to keep it up to date with it's competition from Germany. Minivans don't equate very well to any Germanic rivals, especially since the R-Class from MB has been a major disappointment. <br /><br />One possible area that Chrysler has over its supposed competition is trucks. The new '09 Ram may be a major step up from its predecessor, but we're not so sure we're ready to call it the Mercedes-Benz of pickups, which is pretty much how Press says he sees it. We're all for the idea of an American competitor for Mercedes and BMW, and we'd love to see the Pentastar emerge from its financial problems <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/17/brouhaha-over-embargoes-leads-to-reveal-of-chryslers-auto-show/">a leaner, more focused manufacturer</a>. Still, we wonder if Chrysler should set its sights on cross-town rival Cadillac before jumping all the way to Germany.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20081222/ANA03/812220324/1178">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd, Photo by Brendan Smialowski/Getty]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/jim-press-says-chrysler-could-be-americas-benz-bmw/">Jim Press says Chrysler could be America's Benz, BMW</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 15:39:00 EST. The proof of concept comes in the form of a video released on the automaker's <a href="http://bmw-web.tv/en/video/ueoGP1K/BMW%20X5%20M">bmw-web.tv</a> site, and not surprisingly, the clip doesn't divulge much about the M-modified 'ute. Bernd Limmer, an exec at BMW M GmbH, discusses the essence of "M-ness" that BMW infuses into all of its Motorsports models, goes into detail about how the different systems interact with each other and then hits the Nurburgring to show off the X5 M's prowess on the Nordschleife. There's still no word on when the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/BMWX5M/">BMW X5 M</a> will make it's debut, but considering that the original X5 debuted at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/DetroitAutoShow/">Detroit Auto Show</a> almost a decade ago, the Bimmer boys could have something up their sleeve for the festivities in Motown. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/video-bmw-drives-the-x5-m/">Hit the jump to see the video.</a><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-spy-shots/">BMW X5 M and X6 M - spy shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-spy-shots/999584/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/356439066_wxpbz-xl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-spy-shots/999583/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/356439071_mxxyc-xl-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-spy-shots/999582/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/356439080_lgzn3-xl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-spy-shots/999581/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/356439085_vktik-xl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-x5-m-and-x6-m-spy-shots/999580/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/08/356439091_zcy4o-xl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/video-bmw-drives-the-x5-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: BMW drives the X5 M</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/22/video-bmw-drives-the-x5-m/">VIDEO: BMW drives the X5 M</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 18:28:00 EST. BMW announces pricing for 2009 7 Series, raises prices on everything else

<br />The latest iteration of BMW's all-singing, all-dancing plutocrat limo will roll out the door starting at $81,125. That sum will get buyers the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/22/pics-and-video-aplenty-2009-bmw-7-series/">2009 750i</a> (including $825 for destination charges), but those who are looking for a bit more legroom in back will have to pay $85,025 for the 750Li. Production for these models began last month, but don't expect to see them on the forecourts of your local BMW Center until later this spring.<br /><br />The rest of the BMW lineup is also getting a nudge on pricing, with the average MSRP climbing by 0.7 percent. All pricing increases are effective January 1, 2009; so if you're planning on gifting yourself a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/16/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-bmw-m5/">M5</a> or <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/16/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-bmw-m5/">X6</a> for the holidays, make sure you do so before New Year's. <br /><br />Click <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/bmw-announces-pricing-for-2009-7-series-raises-prices-on-everyt/">on the jump</a> for BMW's official press release and full-line model pricing for 2009.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-7-series-3/">2009 BMW 7 Series</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-7-series-3/901911/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2009bmw7_1280_17_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-7-series-3/901919/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2009bmw7_1280_18_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-7-series-3/901925/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2009bmw7_1280_19_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-7-series-3/901923/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2009bmw7_1280_16_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-bmw-7-series-3/901920/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/2009bmw7_1280_02_thumbnai l.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/bmw-announces-pricing-for-2009-7-series-raises-prices-on-everyt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW announces pricing for 2009 7 Series, raises prices on everything else</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/bmw-announces-pricing-for-2009-7-series-raises-prices-on-everyt/">BMW announces pricing for 2009 7 Series, raises prices on everything else</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 23 Dec 2008 15:28:00 EST. MINI Cooper S recalled for protruding tailpipes, inadvertent tattoos

After leading the sweet lady up your steps and into the house, you return to the car to unload the assorted goodies and gifts that she's brought for you and the fam. You pop open the hatch, reach over to grab a foil-wrapped plate of her legendary baklava and start to feel a burning sensation on your shin. It's official. You've been indoctrinated into the Club of Cooper S owners who now sport a circular prison tat on their legs.<br /><br />According to the NHTSA, the problem affects some 28,450 2007-08 MINI Cooper S models due to the dual tailpipes that protrude too far from the center of the Cooper's rear bumper. The problem has been documented on <a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring .com/forums/coupe-talk-2007/145822-hot-exhaust-tips-mini-branding.html#post2334176 ">several</a> <a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring .com/forums/coupe-talk-2002-2006/75180-stock-mcs-exhaust-burns-leg-photo.html">MINI-specific</a> <a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring .com/forums/coupe-talk-2007/108264-who-got-burn-from-the-exhaust-tip.html">forums</a>, and BMW is stepping up to address the issue and offering Cooper customers a new, shorter exhaust, free of charge. The recall begins in January and owners can contact BMW at 800.831.1117 to schedule a replacement of the offending exhaust. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-mini-cooper-s/">In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 MINI Cooper S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-mini-cooper-s/444424/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/r56-mini-s---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-mini-cooper-s/444476/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/img_7831_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-mini-cooper-s/444426/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/r56-mini-s---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-mini-cooper-s/444423/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/r56-mini-s---03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-mini-cooper-s/444429/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/10/r56-mini-s---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=137906">InsideL ine</a> | Image: <a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring .com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=31143 &cat=1395">Findude</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/mini-cooper-s-recalled-for-protruding-tailpipes-inadvertent-tat/">MINI Cooper S recalled for protruding tailpipes, inadvertent tattoos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 23 Dec 2008 16:58:00 EST.
