2010 BMW Z4 gets caught on set

The car was apparently in a BMW dealership during filming of a new Michael Douglas movie. We should be getting a full online reveal <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/26/video-bmw-launches-z4-countdown-site-coming-dec-15/">on December 15</a> and we'll see the car in person next month at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Detroit-Auto-Show/">Detroit Auto Show</a>. The new car cleans up a lot of the Bangle flame surfacing that marred the last car with the front bumper picking up hints of the latest 3-Series. The Z4 will also reportedly have a retractable hard-top in place of the current car's soft top. If that happens, the coupe will likely be consigned to history. <em>Thanks to everyone who tipped us on this!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190605"> e89.zpost.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/03/2010-bmw-z4-leaks-out-onto-web/">2010 BMW Z4 gets caught on set</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 13:58:00 EST. What's in a Name? BMW to roll out sDrive for rear-drivers
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/crossovers-cuvs/" rel="tag">Crossovers/CUVs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/in-the-autoblog-garage-bmw-x6-xdrive-35i/1192589/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/bmw_x6-(7).jpg" alt="" /></a></p>
<p>Remember the good old days when at least BMW nomenclature was straightforward? The first digit designated the series and the second and third the displacement of the engine. Maybe an extra letter would be tacked on, but that was it. Then they started with M this, Z that and X for the SUVs with xDrive all-wheel drive. So now we've got things like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-bmw-x6-xdrive-35i/">X6 xDrive 35i</a>. Now they're dropping another one on us: rear-wheel-drive models, which used to be the entire BMW line-up, will now bear the "sDrive" nameplate in addition to whatever else they stick on there.</p> <p>We already knew this was coming for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/officially-official-bmw-concept-x1/">upcoming X1</a>, which will be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/bmw-x1-to-offer-both-all-and-rear-wheel-drive/">offered in both xDrive (AWD) and sDrive (RWD) variants</a>. (The current X3, X5 and X6 crossovers are all strictly all-wheel-drive models.) BMW has even reportedly registered the trademarks for sDrive18, sDrive20, sDrive30 and sDrive35, as if someone else would try and use the confusing nomenclature. Wait a second... sDrive35? As in the twin-turbo straight six in the 335i? That's bigger than the engine offered in the larger X3, so what is BMW up to? <br /></p> <p>Reports indicate that the sDrive nameplate could begin appearing on other BMW models driven through the rear axle, including the replacement for the Z4 roadster that was just <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/03/2010-bmw-z4-leaks-out-onto-web/">caught nekkid</a> today. If you look closely on the front fender, you can see a badge that looks an awful lot like "sDrive". We wouldn't expect to see the moniker on the standard series models (1, 3, 5, 6 and 7 Series), since those get the suffix "iX", but we're not sure we can even count on that anymore.</p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://paultan.org/archives/2008/11/29/rear-wheel-drive-bmw-suvs-to-carry-sdrive-suffix/">PaulTan.org</a>]</p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/03/whats-in-a-name-bmw-to-roll-out-sdrive-for-rear-drivers/">What's in a Name? BMW working on concept credit card key fob
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/tech/" rel="tag">Tech</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/1203231/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/p0051188_opt.jpg" /></a><br />
<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the BMW credit card key fob</small></strong></em><br /></div> <br />This is not the first time we've heard that BMW is developing a more efficient way to lose both your car keys and credit card information, and now more details have emerged about its multifunction smart key. The Smart Key, which contains a security chip that can talk to a card reader over short distances, may start out with a smaller function set than it ultimately ends up with as the technology matures. Storing access passes for public transportation and information to facilitate electronic payments are two abilities that BMW feels will eventually appeal to consumers, for instance. More interestingly, the key can be used to carry your personal preferences from car to car like a dongle. Owners would have the fob personalized to their ConnectedDrive preferences, which would then make those options available in any BMW, not just the owner's personal car. It's a novel way to ensure that your favorite radio stations and other services travel with you, provided you always insist on a BMW.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/">BMW credit card key fob</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/1203231/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/p0051188_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/1203230/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/p0051189_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/1203229/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/p0051190_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/1203228/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/p0051191_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-credit-card-key-fob/1203227/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/p0051192_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: BMW via <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/bmw-reveals-multi-functional-smart-key/">4 Wheels news</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/04/bmw-working-on-concept-credit-card-key-fob/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW working on concept credit card key fob</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/04/bmw-working-on-concept-credit-card-key-fob/">BMW working on concept credit card key fob</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 13:43:00 EST. 2010 BMW Z4 moons the camera
<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/detroit-auto-show/" rel="tag">Detroit Auto Show</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/convertibles/" rel="tag">Convertibles</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/09-z4-rump.jpg" /><br /><br />We're waiting with bated breath for the December 15 unveiling of the all-new BMW Z4, but as we inch closer to Z-day we're getting a clearer picture of how the redesigned roadster will look. On Wednesday we <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/03/2010-bmw-z4-leaks-out-onto-web/">caught a glimpse</a> of the Z4 that revealed much smoother, very un-Bangle-looking side panels. Above is the newest Z4 teaser, and as you can see, its a booty shot. The first thing we noticed was the bulging rear wheel arch, which gives the Z4 a more sporting personality than its predecessor. BMW designers also added a strong character line that starts from the inside of the headlamp and continues back to the very BMW-looking tail lamps, complete with white LED accent lights. Two healthy-sized exhaust tips reside out back to keep the Z4's naturally aspirated or turbocharged 3.0L in-line six breathing freely.<br /><br /><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/z4-side-spy1.jpg" />If you see the hard top and assume that you're looking at the Z4 coupe, you're likely wrong. The new Z4 will come as a hard-top convertible for 2009, with a soft-top variant rumored to be arriving one year later. Future Zs could also include an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/25/rumormill-2009-bmw-z4-rumored-to-debut-next-month-z2-on-the-wa/">M-inspired variant with the M3's 4.0L V8</a> and a smaller Z2 roadster. The new Z4 looks very promising, but we'll hold off on final judgment until we can check out the high-res photos on the 15th.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/12/04/and-here-is-the2009-bmw-z4/">BMW Blog</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/04/2010-bmw-z4-moons-the-camera/">2010 BMW Z4 moons the camera</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 18:58:00 EST. AB takes in another Toys for Tots drive with a decidedly German flavor

<div align="center"><em><stron g>Click above for a huge high-res gallery of pics from the Schnuerer Toys for Tots drive</strong></em><br /></div> </small> <br />We spent this past Sunday running all over the Southland, joining other auto enthusiasts in collecting toys for needy kids. Our first stop was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/07/5th-annual-motor4toys-event-draws-thousands-for-a-great-cause/">5th Annual Motor4Toys event</a> up in the Valley, and then we stopped over at Gerhard and Rosemarie Schnuerer's own Fifth Annual Charity Event and Antique Vehicle Show at their mini-museum in Huntington Beach. While the Motor4Toys event was the biggest toy drive we've ever been to, Gerhard's party was equally special, just on a smaller scale.<br /><br />Co-sponsored by Mercedes-Benz USA, it's a great event that allows the public inside the Schnuerer's impressive collection of classic European automobiles and motorcycles. Their concours-level inventory of vehicles include a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211099/">1918 Opel Dual Cowl Phaeton</a>, an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211086/">1895 Benz Horseless Carriage Landaulet/Coupe</a>, and a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211054/">1886 Benz Patent Motor-Wagen replica</a>. Gerhard also happens to be a fan of newer Mercedes-Benzes, which helps explain the open and closed versions of the McLaren SLR out front, right beside the CLK63 Black Series that MBUSA brought along as a special auction offering. <em>Follow the jump to read the rest of the story and don't forget to check out our high-res gallery.</em><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/">Schnuerer 5th Annual Toys for Tots drive</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211051/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/schneurertoys4tots---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="1943 VW K?¼belwagen" title="1943 VW K?¼belwagen" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211069/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/schneurertoys4tots---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211140/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/schneurertoys4tots---03lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211085/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/schneurertoys4tots---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/schnuerer-5th-annual-toys-for-tots-drive/1211093/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/12/schneurertoys4tots---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong>All photos copyright (C)2008 <a href="http://www.frank4cars.fotki.com/">Frank Filipponio</a>/Weblogs, Inc.</strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/11/ab-takes-in-another-toys-for-tots-drive-with-a-decidedly-german/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AB takes in another Toys for Tots drive with a decidedly German flavor</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/11/ab-takes-in-another-toys-for-tots-drive-with-a-decidedly-german/">AB takes in another Toys for Tots drive with a decidedly German flavor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 12:02:00 EST. Its entertainment system's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/22/first-drive-2008-cadillac-cts-interior-and-infotainment/">recording capability</a> was one of the things that impressed us, and, presumably, the voters. This year, CNET asks its readers to <a href="http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-10121516-48.html?part=rss&tag=feed &subj=Crave">choose between</a> three imports and two domestics, none of which are Cadillacs. <br /><br />BMW's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/pics-aplenty-bmw-m3-convertible/">M3 Convertible </a>DCT gets a spot on the ballot with its dual-clutch transmission. We wonder if the car's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/20/bmw-m3-recalled-over-new-double-clutch-gearbox/">recent recall</a> for transmission problems will affect its standing. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/23/in-the-autoblog-garage-2009-nissan-gt-r/">Nissan GT-R</a> shows up again, as you might expect with its cabin full of g-whiz electronics, from the in-dash performance computer to the quick-loading navigation.
