BMW Performance to offer power kit for twin-turbo'd 3.0-liter

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/aftermarket/" rel="tag">Aftermarket</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/tunertuesdays/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a></p><a href="http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/02/13/bmw-performance-power-kit-n54-engine-tune/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw-3-series-21_580op.jpg" /></a><br /><br />When the BMW 335i arrived in 2007, tuners jumped at the chance to boost the boosted 3.0-liter inline-six. After a few ECU tweaks, the new 3 series was putting out an additional 70-80 hp and a commensurate increase in torque, and once the 135i and 535i arrived, the market grew accordingly.<br /><br />Recognizing that owners are willing to let their new rides go under the electronic knife, BMW has decided that the aftermarket shouldn't be the only avenue available for drivers looking for more punch from the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter. The automaker will begin offering an upgrade for the 135i, 335i and 535i in Europe, and it's rumored to be available in the U.S. sometime in April.<br /><br />However, owners opting for the BMW Performance Power Kit shouldn't expect the same output available from the aftermarket. The kit, which consists of a software upgrade and a new cooling apparatus, will only net an additional 20 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque. That pales in comparison to the <a href="http://www.vishnutuning.com/bmw_335i.htm">400+ hp that Vishnu customers enjoy</a>, but for those wary of venturing into the aftermarket, it's a solid offering that doesn't risk a warranty-voiding trip to the dealer.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.bimmerfile.com/2009/02/13/bmw-performance-power-kit-n54-engine-tune/">Bimmerfile</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/16/bmw-performance-to-offer-power-kit-for-twin-turbod-3-0-liter/">BMW Performance to offer power kit for twin-turbo'd 3.0-liter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 11:01:00 EST. Hotted-up BMW X6 prototype spotted in Brooklyn - Next M?

At least BMW's crazy whirl-filled disguise stands a chance of escaping notice in the hustle and bustle. GMInsideNews forum member GeneralMischief didn't walk by this extra-sinister <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/01/in-the-autoblog-garage-bmw-x6-xdrive-35i/">X6</a> without realizing that something wicked is going on. Cameraphone shots of the exterior are all we have to go on at this point, but the conspicuous location of camo - on the front and rear fascias and on the front quarter panels - hints that an X6-M is in store. <br /><br />The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/11/first-drive-2009-bmw-x6-xdrive35i-and-xdrive50i/">X6 XDrive 50i</a> already has an M-division feel about it, with a 400 horsepower turbo V8 wallop and accompanying raucous exhaust note. Our imaginations reel with the thought of the M5's spectacular V10 finding its way into the X6's engine bay, but that's probably not going to happen. Most likely is a boost tweak for more power, revised suspension tuning, and more aggressive - yet still understated - bodywork. When it's a BMW wearing M badges, it's safe to assume power delivery akin to a solid rocket booster, backed up by handling that will make the X6's avoirdupois dance more gracefully than it already does. Maybe they will find a way to fix the V8's flinty ride while they're at it. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x6-m-version/">X6 M-version</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x6-m-version/1361768/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/0215090843wp5_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x6-m-version/1361767/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/0215090843bvp8_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x6-m-version/1361766/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/0215090843aav3_thumbnail. jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/x6-m-version/1361765/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/0215090842si3_thumbnail.j pg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f62/revised-bmw-x6-spied-brooklyn-75467/">GMInsideNews</a> Photos: GeneralMischief]<br /><p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/16/hotted-up-bmw-x6-prototype-spotted-in-brooklyn-next-m/">Hotted-up BMW X6 prototype spotted in Brooklyn - Next M?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 14:27:00 EST. BMW Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo design sketches still confuse us

<div align="center"><em><stron g><small>Click above for high-res gallery of BMW Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo design sketches</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />No, we can't answer for you what BMW is thinking when it introduces vehicles like this that defy classification. The X6 did it and now the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/13/geneva-preview-full-details-emerge-on-bmw-5-series-gran-turismo/">Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo</a> will do it again at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> next month. Dubbed the Progressive Activity Sedan during its development, the Concept 5 Series GT is part sedan and wagon, part luxury car and crossover, part BMW and an answer to a question no one asked. Answering unasked questions is BMW's thing these days, so perhaps these design sketches will shed light on what the Concept 5 Series GT is actually supposed to be. We've analyzed each one carefully, and we're still not sure what purpose such a big vehicle that only seats four people could serve. Needless to say, those four people will probably enjoy their time in BMW's latest segment-bending model. Click on over to carbodydesign to read their much more expert opinion of the vehicle's design. Judging by their lengthy analysis, there actually was some thought put into it.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches/">BMW Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo design sketches</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches/1366450/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/_bmw-concept-5-series-gt-design-sketch-1-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches/1366430/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw-concept-5-series-gt-design-sketch-1-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches/1366428/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw-concept-5-series-gt-design-sketch-2-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches/1366427/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw-concept-5-series-gt-design-sketch-3-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches/1366429/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw-concept-5-series-gt-design-sketch-4-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><s trong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-5-series-gran-turismo-concept/">BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-5-series-gran-turismo-concept/1355261/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw_pas_1280_12_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-5-series-gran-turismo-concept/1355252/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw_pas_1280_13_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-5-series-gran-turismo-concept/1355248/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw_pas_1280_14_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-5-series-gran-turismo-concept/1355243/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw_pas_1280_02_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-5-series-gran-turismo-concept/1355262/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmw_pas_1280_15_thumbnail .jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2009/02/17-bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design/">carbodydesign</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/17/bmw-concept-5-series-gran-turismo-design-sketches-still-confuse-us/">BMW Concept 5 Series Gran Turismo design sketches still confuse us</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 14:59:00 EST. The supposedly leaked image above fills in the rest of the details of the upright nosejob, along with a set of LED indicators nestled into the air dam and a revised hood that includes an ovoid character line leading from the roundel to the windshield.<br /><br />We're not quite convinced of the legitimacy of the image, particularly with the unveiling of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/13/geneva-preview-full-details-emerge-on-bmw-5-series-gran-turismo/">BMW Concept 5 series GT</a> just a few days earlier, but if this is any indication of what's to come, we like what we see so far. <em>Thanks for the tip, Steve!</em><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232218"> 5post</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/17/f10-bmw-5-series-pokes-its-nose-out-on-web/">F10 BMW 5 Series pokes its nose out on web</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 16:58:00 EST. Rumormill: BMW Z2 still in the works

<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/sports/" rel="tag">Sports/GTs</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/bmw/" rel="tag">BMW</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/rendered-speculation/" rel="tag">Rendered Speculation</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/rumormill/" rel="tag">Rumormill</a></p><a href="http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/bmw-z2-kleiner-roadster-ab-2011-984210.html"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/02/bmwz2.jpg" /></a>Is the rumored little roadster from BMW on track for a 2011 debut? <em>Auto Motor und Sport</em> seems to think so. They even have a rendering by renowned artist Mark Stehrenberger to prove it. If we are to believe the rumors, the BMW Z2 should be closer to what the original Z3 was. That is, more of an entry level roadster to compete with the premium versions of the Mazda MX-5, compared to the more upscale Z4 that just debuted, which is more of a Porsche Boxster rival.<br /><br />As we've told you before, the <a href="http:// http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/18/rumormill-bmw-preparing-z2-roadster-based-on-1-series/">BMW Z2</a> would be based on the 1-series platform. To simplify things, BMW is rumored to be using a soft top rather than a retractable metal lid. The car will feature turbocharged and naturally aspirated four-cylinder powerplants in the 1.8-2.0 liter range. Horsepower should start around 150 and climb to 300 assuming an M version follows. There's even a rumored hybrid variant with its gearbox positioned between the engine and an e-motor pack. Active steering, a dual clutch gearbox and active suspension could be part of the package with a base price rumored to be around $30,000. The BMW Z2 could make its debut as early as latet 2010, which would give it a healthy head start over the rival <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/05/mercedes-benz-considering-a-class-roadster-for-the-states/">SLA from Mercedes-Benz</a>. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/bmw-z2-kleiner-roadster-ab-2011-984210.html">Auto Motor und Sport</a>]<p style="padding:5px;backgr ound:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/19/rumormill-bmw-z2-still-in-the-works/">Rumormill: BMW Z2 still in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblo g</a> on Thu, 19 Feb 2009 14:30:00 EST.
